Having got completely drookit in the morning, the sun did the decent thing and made a brief appearance in the afternoon bringing with it some blue skies.
At first, snow was soft and sugary, but later in the day hardened, with more effort needed to keep an edge. The Ptarmigan Bowl run was patchy, but good snow. The Ciste Fairway offered some good snow where there was snow, but having broken overnight it was patched up at first light, with some rocks to watch out for on the steeper pitches with a slushy mess in the queueing area.
Not officially open was Coire Cas. Having hiked down to past the M1 turnoff, the Traverse had a good width of snow, though the upper 105 was broken too, so we opted to walk up to the head of the Cas run. From there, it was plain sailing on a good width of snow to the Gunbarrel, which requires care and is probably advisable to either sideslip or walk.
