Over the past few years I've often skied in Scotland on mid-summers day, but this year is the first time I've had mechanical access to the snow. Two Britonlifts were in operation in the Ptarmigan Bowl at CairnGorm, extending the Scottish ski season from 28 November to 21 June.
While the rope tows were set up in a corner of the Ptarmigan Bowl, if you carried on down to the Ciste Gully there was around 700ft vertical ski descent on offer (though did require a hike-out, and there were thinning snow bridges to watch out for).
Canoeing in the morning, skiing in the afternoon... cannae beat it!
