- Dalwhinnie Corries
Skiers had long been aware of the possibilities of the Dalwhinnie corries for skiing, and in October 1985, the Drumochter Ski Development Group applied for planning permission for a ski development in Coire Uilleim and Coire nan Cisteachan on Carn na Caim, south of Dalwhinnie.

This came to be in competition with an earlier proposal from another group - the Drumochter Ski Development Company Ltd (see Jean's Gully) – who were proposing another ski development on a nearby hill at the same time. Board staff, the landowner of each site, and the Highland Regional Council were all of the opinion that only one of the two projects should initially be permitted to proceed. While the Jean's Gully proposals had outline planning permission, they ultimately failed due to a lack of funding.

A 1989 proposal to develop the Carn na Caim corries came exceptionally close to becoming a reality, and was at the advanced stage of having construction work ready to commence. However, the plans stalled due in part to the development of Nevis Range taking place on Aonach Mor at around the same time.

In the finalised plan a carpark was to be situated just off the A9, less than a mile south of the village of Dalwhinnie. From here, a shuttle bus was to carry skiers and snowboarders the remaining 3/4 mile to the Base Station and restaurant at approximately 600m. Earlier plans suggested either an access chairlift from the A9, or a MAG-LEV (magnetic-levitation) railway for access to the Base Station.

While the earlier development proposals were for ski infrastructure to be built in both corries at the same time, the latest plans were for developments to initially take place in just Coire nan Cisteachean where there was to be four main tows – most likely T-Bars or Pomas - as well as two smaller beginner tows situated near to the Base Station.

In these final proposals, the Coire Uilleaim area was to be an expansion area which was to be developed at a later stage.
