- Braeriach
While a few groups showed interest, no formal development plans for Braeriach were ever submitted. It was too environmentally important for planners to even consider permitting a ski area there.

With the current ski areas of the time, CairnGorm, Glencoe, Glenshee and Lecht crowded, it was realised that another ski area would be required to ease congestion. The Highland Regional Council organised a group of ski experts (Eric Langmuir, Bob Clyde, Guy Chilver-Stainer, Clive Freshwater, David Patterson and Jack Thomson) who were familiar with the Highlands, and took them by helicopter to every potential ski area.

The group decided that without doubt, Braeriach offered the best potential in Scotland for a major new ski area. The corries around the mountain, namely the south facing An Garbh Coire, offer the best snow holding in Scotland, so late season skiing would have been possible into the summer months some years.

Eight large snow fields discharge into various and numerous gullies, which then lead down to Glen Einich. In terms of variety and length of runs, they thought of this as the best all round downhill ski area. Access would have been from Glen Einich.

They thought that in the height of winter, up to a possible three miles of lift served descent would be possible, and that the potential ski capacity per day would be well over 10, 000.

Even with a more limited ski development, it was thought that a few low chairlifts could be placed in such a way within the corries so as to be almost completely hidden from the outside.

Of course, eventually the idea of creating a new major ski development here was scrapped, and the ski area was instead built at Aonach Mor which was one of the mountains that the group assessed.

Incidentally, other areas the group thought would be ideal for ski developments were A'Chailleach, Drumochter, Glencoe, Creag Meagaidh, Ben Wyvis, and in Glenshee expansion on the east of Meall-Odhar and into Ghlas Choire and the Garbh Coire.
